Who Me??
I have no clue about how to configure CFE.

But Sys:Documents/X1000_CFE.pdf says on page 5,
setenv -p MENU_TIMEOUT 5
will change the timeout from ten seconds to five, and
unsetenv MENU_TIMEOUT
will restore the ten second default.

It also says that
setenv -p MENU_DEFAULT 1
lets you choose which selection will be the default, which
I thought also pertains to this discussion.

Could be useful, yes. But for most people I suspect it is easier to set up extra boot partitions by means of extra entries in the kicklayout of the default boot partition. That can be done in a text editor from the comfort of AmigaOS, while fiddling with the first (CFE) menu requires you to set CFE variables from the CFE prompt.
