It starts "green" when the disk is first accessed, then changes to "red" which fades away, presumably when the disk activity has stopped.
BTW you can also add additional devices to tool types if, for example you are using an extra SATA plugin card as well at the onboard SATA and PATA
DEVICE=sb600sata.device,0
DEVICE=sb600ide.device,0
DEVICE=sii3114ide.device,0
DEVICE=sii3114ide.device,1
etc, etc

Re: Hard drive activity
I suspect we have crossed two topics here.
ggw asked about the color of the case LED in pictures of the X1000 available on the internet.
As far as I know, all X1000's shipped with a RED case LED behind the power switch,
although Fractal might have shipped similar non-boing cases with other colors.
(* See note below)
Trevor answered about the diskleddocky program available at OS4Depot.
This neat little tool shows GREEN for disk reads, RED for disk writes, and fades to blank
when the drive is inactive. This is displayed ON screen, in the dock bar. It does NOT
change the color of the case LED to green at any time.
Of course, if I have crossed anything up further, I expect to be corrected.

*Note: WhIle I believe all X1000 cases were SHIPPED with a Red LED only,
some of us have modified the case to show different colors to indicate
drive activity, as has been described in previous posts.

Correct, I have never seen a Fractal one with Green led.LyleHaze wrote: ggw asked about the color of the case LED in pictures of the X1000 available on the internet.

As Far as I know, they are either RED or BLUE.

Thanks for the clarification.
While I'm struggling to get a Linux setup going on my X1000, I suspect *a l l s o r t s* of things, and see "maybe THAT's it" in all around me.

The Live Ubuntu CD, which makes the whole process very easy, should be available soon. Just making a few minor additions before sending it to the printers. A digital download version will also be available on the new A-EON app store.

Re: Hard drive activity
Hey, I'm glad I asked the question. All kinds of ideas. I've downloaded diskleddocky (to my SAM, but the next time I try the X1000 I'll install it there).
After posting the query, I realized that CPUInfo would do in a pinch, if it is safe to assume that when the CPU stops, the disk must too, and I was mainly concerned with knowing whether the machine had died, or it was just taking a real long time to launch something.

Re: Hard drive activity
I added DiskLED to my SAM460 the day I was told about it, and it worked perfectly. Yesterday when I got back to my X1000 and added it there, the docky just kept staring at me, whitefaced.
I thought maybe it didn't know what device I was using, and I didn't, either, so I went to Media Toolbox and found out it was an sb600sata.device,0, and adding that made DiskLED work, so thanks again for that suggestion.
But Media Toolbox raised an off-topic question. When I launch it, I get an alert telling me, "couldn't use cybppc.device because there are no units attached"! Googling "cybppc.device" brings up mostly 10-year-old hits, and references to OS3.1 and the like. What does it have to do with an X1000?

Re: Hard drive activity
I just checked mine, and found the following tooltypes in the MediaToolbox icon:
(DEVICE=cybppc.device)
(KEEPENGINE)
(LUNSCAN)
(1000UNITS)
If yours were in brackets like mine I suspect it wouldn't nag you as much.
Have Fun!
