Hi,
I'm transferring all my Peg2 datas from my NAS to my x1000 (4gb RAM RTL8139) using smbfs (1.74).
After around 700-800Mb of data download, the data rate falls to 0kb/s and my x1000 freezes.
I try around 10 times, and each time, the same problem around 700-800mb of download
I made the same test on my Peg2 (AOS4.1.5 1gb ram) and I have no problem to go up to 1.3gb of download.
I tried to remove 1 RAM stick, to change the RAM slot... no success.
I tried to add option cachesize 999999 to smbfs... no success
I tried with dopus or workbench copy... No success
I tried on partition SFS0 & SFS2 with the same blocksize, mask, etc than on peg2... No success
(Edit : I tried on RAM:... Success to download more than 1gb, yeah!!!)
I post on the x1000 forum because it works like a charm on my Peg, therefore maybe a specific problem on x1000 ?
Is someone could test to download a lot of data with smbfs ?
I hope that it's my installation of AOS4.1.5 who is the problem?
Thank by advance, for your help, I really need smbfs

Re: smbfs for large datas freezes my X1000 (works on Peg2)
Hello zzd10h,
is it a big archive you are downloading or is it a copy of several independent more or less big files ?
Did you try to download the same data using FTP?
Personnaly I'm using SMBFS to access my NAS and I never had any lockup of my machine. The idea to try with FTP is to see if the problem comes from SMBFS or your network.

Happy to know that it's just me who have this problem, thank you.
I will test this evening by ftp, good idea.
Nevertheless, it works fine if I select RAM: as destination... Maybe a problem in my partitions definitions.

Re: smbfs for large datas freezes my X1000 (works on Peg2)
I don't remember copying so much data in one go (except maybe want I receive my X1000 motherboard to get bakc my work and dev partitions) but it was a long time ago.
As you are not betatester I suppose your X1000 was completely built by AmigaKit so you should have a perfectly supported setup.
You mention you don't have the problem copying data to RAM:. When this data are in RAM can you try to copy them to your HD?

Re: smbfs for large datas freezes my X1000 (works on Peg2)
I just made these tests with a 1,2gb directory with lot of files
1) download with smbfs on a SFS/2 partition => KO after around 700-800 Mb
2) download with smbfs on RAM; => OK
3) copy of this directory from RAM to SFS/2 partition => OK
4) download with pftp on SFS/0 partition => OK but very slow
there are the parameters of my partitions (the same parameter than on my peg)
SFS/0
Blocksize = 512
Buffer = 1000
Maxtransfer = 7FFFFFFF
Mask = FFFFFFFF
SFS/2
Blocksize = 1024
Buffer = 600
Maxtransfer = 7FFFFFFF
Mask = FFFFFFFE
Is somebody can try to download a huge directory with smbfs ?
Thank by advance

We don't recommend using anything but 512 byte blocks for SFS, SFS2 and JXFS.zzd10h wrote: SFS/2

@zzd10h
just copied a 1GB file from my NAS using SMBFS without any problem. The target partition was using JXFS though...

Thanks ssolie for the advice.
Abalaban, happy to know that it's my config who is not correct.
Could you please say me which parameter have your jxfs partition and what is your network card and smbfs version?
Thank you.

Re: smbfs for large datas freezes my X1000 (works on Peg2)
If you have no success with SMBFS/Samba, then I can highly recommend FTPMount.
Alternatively, it might be simpler to just connect your Peg2's HD to your X1000. (But better check with AmigaKit if opening your X1000 will void your warrenty - I assume not, but that is just my assumption)

Re: smbfs for large datas freezes my X1000 (works on Peg2)
Thank for the ideas, but I don't wt to unplug my peg HD and I still try ftp solution but it was very slower than smbfs.
i try JXFS, but with the same directory (lots of files) it failed again.
But for big files (700mb ones) it works nice, I'm transferring 4gb for the moment and it doesn't crash for the moment.
