Hi, from day one, the boot sound on my X1000 has been distorted and scratchy.
It was annoying so I disabled it and forgot about it.
I saw in this thread http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/vie ... r=0#683776 that another user has the same issue. Is this a known issue? Is there a solution?
TIA
Scratchy boot sound on X1000
Re: Scratchy boot sound on X1000
@ddni
I do *not* get this problem, however that could easily be caused by either:
1. Me not using the standard(???) "hirasawa.wav" file, but rather an IFF conversion of it (to save a small amount of datatypes conversion overhead that might have been noticable on my Sam440). I guess I can test the standard WAV file if necessary.
2. My sound card is most likely not the same model as used in production X1000s.

@BandiT
As far as my notes indicate, I have a 5-10 year old SoundBlaster128 sound card installed. This probably doesn't help you much...
BTW, what sound card do normal X1000s have?

Re: Scratchy boot sound on X1000
I have not had any sound issues with my X-1000.
I am using a Rosewill RC-701 card, purchased from NewEgg.
This card uses a CMI8738 chip, and has been working fine for me.
I use an audio mixer so that ALL my sound sources can be live
at once, I would definitely have noticed if My X had a scratchy startup sound.
Now my Micro, that thing scratches more than a DeeJay at a Hip-Hop event.
But only until AHI loads up and silences it.

This is my soundcard.

Re: Scratchy boot sound on X1000
Generally sound works ok, except for the scratchy start up sound and loud pops when a new program accesses the sound card for the first time. This second issue was fixed by installing http://os4depot.net/index.php?function= ... hiopen.lha (the scratchy boot sound was an issue before installing this).
I have noticed that when I click on play a test sound in AHI prefs with CMI8738, nothing happens. Is this common?
In all but music unit, the only sound modes visible are those in the pic below.
However if I choose a different sound mode in music unit (see below) I get a sound from play test sound. CMI8738 does not produce a test sound.

I notice you are using Line In and not Mixer for input. Nothing to do with scratchy sound thou.ddni wrote:Generally sound works ok,
