You should be able to use the PC version of the Quake 2 (and 3) CD with Capehill's executable:

His are modified versions of Hyperion's original releases (they released the source code as required by the GPL). Hyperion has subsequently released an update for Q2 IIRC, but I don't know if it is better than Capehill's (I suspect not).

The hyperion update has a much better game installer, ahi is configurable from the in-game menus, and the game is playable in windowed mode with the mouse. It also runs better on my system than capehill's port, but some people see the opposite.
