Some working USB2 cards

Since several people have had problems getting a USB 2 PCI card to work with the new EHCI driver on their AmigaOnes, I thought I'd post details and pictures of the two cards I have working here in my two AmigaOnes. If others follow up with details of other cards they have seen working, this could evolve into a whitelist which could help others selecting a card.

Note: This is by no means an official guarantee that these cards will work for you, merely that they do for me. As usual, YMMV.

1. In my AmigaOne XE/G4, I have a card which is branded by TrendNet and uses a VIA chipset.

I have tried 2 cards. A 6 port card with an nvidia chip, and a 5 port NEC card
both worked well once I discarded a faulty usb cable to a hub I was using.

The NVidia chipped card is the MP5273 (6)

I have had a printer, camera, and one or other of 4 usb2 hubs connected and all work fine on two A1 XEs
Writing up to 3GB in one hit, no lockups or crashes - no numbers sorry.
Impressions: Writing 3GB still seems to drag along, lets agitate for USB3

Copying from the card is very much faster, smaller files read or write in a flash.

For the record the hubs tested with and without power are
I-rocks 4 port hub and card reader
I-rocks 3port hub
DSE 7 port hub

Aten 4 port magnetic hub (unpowered only)
SSK SB reader
1 GB, 4GB SB cards; 2GB, 4GB, 8GB flash drives.

Correction. I have tried a different and even longer USB cable to the unpowered 3 port hub
and it is writing without errors. The other long cable has become faulty it would appear.
I have still to try the replacement on the powered hubs.

Some Numbers

Writing 22 videos totalling 6409.5 MB (6.41 GB) from sfs PATA drive (sil680 controller) to 8GB FAT flash drive:
48m 13s (2893 secs) = 2.2 MB/s

Copying same from card to drive:
14m 10 s (850 secs) = 7.54 MB/s

One wonders why the sticks are called flash drives.

What's the performance like on USB 2? Any benchmarks?

Also, is there any special set-up required, or is it simply a matter of installing a PCI card and away it goes with the EHCI driver?

Discovered something new to like about the updated USB drivers on u3!

I'd found before that if I created a folder on a flash drive and copied files to it on my A1, then the folder wouldn't appear when I plugged the drive into my PlayStation 3. Anything copied into the root, plus folders I created when plugged into my old Windows ME laptop, would show up, but not folders and therefore anything in the folders.

Just tested it now with the same hardware on my A1 (i.e., motherboard USB 1.1 connected to my powered Logitech USB 2.0 hub and the same flash drive) and it was fine. Created a folder and copied a 6MB avi made with FFMpeg, the PS3 saw it and allowed me to play it.

Here are some pics of my USB2 hardware for my A1-XE-G4.

NZXT powered multi-hub internal adaptor

The NZXT is plugged into the two internal ports on the Koutech card. The case ports and the card reader/USB ports are plugged into the NZXT card. The NZXT just attaches anywhere inside with velcro.

But the result was no joy. First installed in my only spare slot, beneath the AGP slot. Wasn't recognised on boot-up, and got multiple notifications that hub wasn't responding to reset.

Next tried it in the slot 2nd from the bottom (above my sound card). That was even worse: the A1 failed to boot during the SLB.

Sigh...
