Does this happen also if the EHCI driver is disabled?

I have disabled my A1 back ports since my USB2 card can work on the back with hot plugging in USB1.x mode fine. But I use my front ports connected to on board USB.

I can use all these ports together, A1 and USB card, fine in USB1.x mode.

I believe so....I'll double check today and let you know for sure if I get time.

Try disabling the network driver and test EHCI also.

I get the same behaviour with EHCI driver. If it's disabled, system doesn't freeze at any moment even using SWAP memory. :D
If EHCI driver is enabled, system freezes in any moment sooner or later. :ugeek:

What's your A1 and USB hardware?

I would like to add my experience with my a1g3se board and onboard usb and nec usb pci card.
with os4.1.6 always updated, I have to disable onboard usb in uboot, then I have to disable uhci driver in kicklayout, so the nec usb card works, but
if I copy big files, such as mp3 or films, from usb keydrive (fat 32 8gig), it freezes, sooner or later.
if I use a usb to lan adapter with the adm chip, belkin f5d5050, I get connection to internet for a while but sooner or later there comes a DSI error, then I have to reboot
If I enable onboard usb, no Nec card, the OS4.1.6 won't open, it freezes at the splash screen
If I use OS4.0 on a different HD, no Nec card and onboard USB enabled, I see a fat32 8gig usb keydrive as non dos
the lan adapter seems to work
more tests in the future

Thanks for your experiences. Yes the SE has more trouble than the µA1 regards to USB! I recommend to disable the EHCI module. This will surely cause trouble as I see it. You can test with it disabled in any case.
