Maximum window sizes

Post by kolla »

OS3.1.4 with intuition.library v45 does not allow windows to be larger than screen, for the reason that it may make windows impossible to handle, as widgets and gadgets can become inaccessible, locate outside of the visible screen area, according to ThoR. And besides, Microsoft Windows has the same limitation, so that's why.

So why does OS4.1 (FEU2HF1) allow windows to be larger than screen size? Perhaps it should have the same limitations that intuition v45 of OS3.1.4 has?

Also, there are no problems making widgets and gadgets inaccissible already with OS3.1.4...

Code: Select all

RequestChoice TITLE test BODY "`Type S:Startup-Sequence`" GADGETS "OK"
.. with some luck, the "OK" button is now unreachable (though you can get around just this problem with LAMIGA+V/B)

In OS4, if you hold down Ctrl + LAmiga, you can drag a window by clicking anywhere in it (except active string gadgets etc).

And the same could be done on OS3 - there are commodities that do this already, but most, if not all, do not work well with Intuition.library v45.

(example: http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/DragIt4)

But I have yet to see anyone explain what window size has to do with this imaginary problem in the first place - if one can drag a window larger than screen size, one can also drag it smaller than screen size, and if one can position windows entirely outside of visible area, then size is irrelevant.
