OS4.1 preference fail @ installation

Post by Tedzogh »

Hello.

I'm trying to reinstall AOS4.1 on my A4000 but gets a errormessage evrytime i try it:

Copying language preferences...
No language preferences selected. you should do that after booting your system. Copying default preferences.
Error copying standard preference files.

This is whats happening whatever i do,
I have stript the computer from everything but a voodoo card and the buddah card i have the cd connected to.
The installation worked whit this computer before and havn't added any hardware that coult interfere.

I'm getting out of options here, hope you can help me :)

Have you tried booting form the CD and performing the installation from there??

Yes, you should have a floppy disk with your original OS4.1 package which will enable you to boot from a CD/DVD drive attached to an IDE port. You can boot directory from your OS4.1 CDRom (without the need for the floppy disk) if you have a CD/DVD drive attached to your Cyberstorm.

These settings you mention are part of the initial setup prior to the actual OS installation.

Does seem a little strange that you say you've done it before on this very machine. Perhaps you just forgot the floppy disk side of things. Just double check things again.

I have tryed booting from 2 diferent floppy disks, 2 AOS4.1 cd's, from os3.x, several hdd's, every possible filesystem.
Everything works great, untill the last part of the installation when i get the error...
This is how i did it the first time when it worked ( or actualy 3 times thoe to some testing):
booting from floppy, selecting language and country.
Setting up the harddrives partitions withe Sys: swap: Work: and Temp:
Starting the installation script, selecting graphic card, monitor.
everyting works great untill the preference confiuration where i get this message.

I have ripped my hair for too weaks now and have tryed every possible way i can think of.

The installation ONLY supports installing onto a blank partition not over existing 3.X or 4.X installations.
Reformat your sys: partition during the installation process and it will work.
