Any hope for a Wayfarer browser port for OS 4?
Any hope for a Wayfarer browser port for OS 4?
Now that MorphOS has the updated Wayfarer browser, is there any hope of a port for OS 4? Or is OS 4 not up to date enough to handle it?

There are no developers around to do the work.

Modern WebKit core on wich Wayfarer based needs fixes in our GCC (so in adtools repo). And the only person of late updating it was Sebastian (SBA), who didn't update it for half of the year now.
Also, it may need new changes in the kernel too, which need fast fixes and fast work, which also in current realms, not the case.

Just because the MorphOS people needed to change things in their kernel, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's also needed in the AmigaOS kernel.
Do we know exactly which changes they had to make in their kernel and why?
Best regards,
Niels

As the Wayfarer code is in ObjectiveC, wouldn't this be a big show stopper for a port?
Re: Any hope for a Wayfarer browser port for OS 4?
Can't the "missing bits" be coded seperately as a shared library ?
Re: Any hope for a Wayfarer browser port for OS 4?
Indeed, its complete framework is missing, ObjC does not access MUI directly.
If you want to use GitHub you get a compatibility boost from 50% to 90%!
However ObjC bloats an exe like Hollywood...

Re: Any hope for a Wayfarer browser port for OS 4?
Hi
I work with the team that maintains the official PlayStation web browser on Vita/PS4/PS5 which is webkit based. They also do WebKit ports to other platforms - Android, Linux, other embedded etc. I talked to them about doing an OS4 port and they looked into it and think it's viable. But then I talked to various other people - the guys doing the OWB port, Trevor himself, and others, and they all said don't bother it would cost too much. I suggested we could do a crowdfunding for it, but everyone advised me that would just cause aggro and infighting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Would it be possible to ask the guys for an estimate of the costs and then think about crowdfunding?
I actually dont care about any other guy who *thinks* it may be too expensive without actually asking.

Well to do it properly, from scratch would be of the order fifty to one hundred thousand dollars. But a faster path might be to work with one of the existing ports and bring it up to date.
