The timing of when exactly to hold down the mouse buttons can be quite tricky. You might want to try holding down the "Help" (Scroll Lock) key instead. It should be held right at the start of the "splash screen period", i.e. just after Kickstart has loaded, but not for too long....

autoinfo is known to be the culprit for freezes. i have disabled it in the meantime.
unfortunately no solution available yet

isn't it mounted automatically when booting from the cd?
if not you could try to use a linux/win pc or an external usb card reader where you can put the cf card in...
