Re: Unable to copy large amounts of data across different dr

Check for bad blocks using SMART (only works over SATA & IDE, not USB). it reports all OK. Are you sure? What does it report in the RAW_VALUE column for the following rows: Reallocated_Sector_Ct Current_Pending_Sector Offline_Uncorrectable UDMA_CRC_Error_Count Hardware_ECC_Recovered Seek_Error_...

Re: Unable to copy large amounts of data across different dr

Check for bad blocks using SMART (only works over SATA & IDE, not USB). I found that AmigaOS seems unable to correctly handle some bad blocks (possibly Pending ones) that are handled fine under other OSes like Windows, generating error messages EXACTLY like those in the first post. I was going t...

Re: Ellipsis in gadget and menu labels

@trixie I'm sure you're right, as it's the most helpful thing from the user's point of view. And I've always treated "..." like that (thus PictureAlbum's Help, About & Preferences menu items do not end with "..." despite opening windows.) Sounds like the User Interface Style ...

Re: UrlOpen needs Arexx Support

I don't really see the problem with adding ARexx support - it's just a matter of sending commands to ARexx ports, and that's exactly the same as how Python communicates with ARexx-capable programs. The 68k parts of ARexx are AFAIK to do with the interpreter - sending ARexx commands between programs...

Re: UrlOpen needs Arexx Support

it would take me under 15 minutes to write a small CLI program to handle whatever the existing communications interface happens to be. That might be true in principle, but in practice we are still here 1-2 years later (or possibly longer) with both Timberwolf & MUI-OWB not working correctly wit...

Re: UrlOpen needs Arexx Support

@colinw It seems that you are advocating a different trade-off for URLOpen than what OpenURL chose. Specifically, you want to keep URLOpen as simple as possible (both implementation AND user configuration), such that there is only a single command for each program. The trade-off is a slight increase...

Re: BltBitMap() allocating video memory!?!

BTW, if all you want to do with that bitmap is a simple blit to an in-VRAM bitmap, then you could always allocate a block of memory, and use WritePixelArray(). On Sam4x0 machines WritePixelArray() is even DMA accelerated. Given that you can't use HW acceleration for such bitmaps and any blitting wi...

Specifying the screen BitMap as a friend BitMap doesn't seem to guarantee that the new BitMap will be allocated to the same graphics card as that screen is using....
I've run afoul of unexpected Picasso96 behaviour (see separate post), so that might not be a bug (but I do find it really strange).

BltBitMap() allocating video memory!?!

A user of the graphics module of PortablE r6 (beta) has been complaining that his program is using a lot of video memory, despite carefully telling it that images should not be stored in video memory (when he doesn't need them). Having looked into it, I arrived at the totally unexpected answer that ...
