Re: Media Toolbox and OS

When Workbench prefs "hides" a partition, it just prevents the icon from displaying on the workbench screen. All partitions that "automount" will be available, whether hidden or not. The bootable automount partition with the highest boot priority will be the default Sys. The user...

Re: Command Voice Interface

I once set up an A500 for a friends blind sister. She had found a typesetting program that was intended for use by the blind. To make basic computer operations easier, I set up a shell that had all STDOUT and STDERR re-directed to the translator/Narrator. It worked amazingly well, with the biggest &...

Re: Command Voice Interface

I think this forum badly needs a pipe-dream filter :-) In some ways, I agree completely. We have limited resources, and it's important to focus on things that will give us the best return. But on the other hand, this is a VERY special OS, and we need to remember that dreams can sometimes lead us in...

Re: What is correct Keyboard USB Port on X5000

Are there plans to fix this known bug for X1K users...? I speak with no authority, just my observation: CFE works, and this "known bug" is very simple to work around. Since it's no more than a minor inconvenience at most, I'd suggest that developers time would be better spent chasing bigg...

Re: Odyssey - YouTube - Offline Movies - system freezes

I had a CMI8738 in my X1000 for a long time without ever having a problem. If someone could supply a "bad" CMI8738 card I would be happy to try it out. If it turns out to be a problem with the PCI bridge then there's likely to be little that the driver can do to correct it, but at this poi...

Re: ssd mounting

Sounds like you've had some bad luck. I don't know much on the difference between SATA and PATA. I believe the command set is similar but the interface has gone serial. While some may disagree, I have always believed that IF you have good power, it's better for a computer to stay on 24/7 than to pow...

Re: ssd mounting

If you have the Official X1000 case, an SSD drive can be screwed directly to the hard drive tray. It is NOT through the vibration rubbers that regular drives use, but there's not much need for those on an SSD anyway. I have some type of SanDisk, details not remembered, it has worked without issue. T...

Re: Unexpected shell behavior?

I can understand how it could be very helpful to those users that spend most of their time playing with their mouse. The CLI/Shell/Command Line can be very intimidating, requiring you to type in specific words in a very specific format to achieve success, and complaining in terms that are not unders...

Re: Unexpected shell behavior?

APPDIR: is part of my path.
I suppose I just don't understand how it works.

Sometimes I am just too old to figure out how this works.

Ah well. thanks all for the help anyway.
