Re: Unstable X5000

Things got worse today. Had a lock-up while transferring a large files from USB. Switched it off and left it off for a couple of hours to cool down (today has been quite hot although not as humid). Came back and made three failed attempts to boot. On each attempt, Workbench would start to load and t...

Re: Unstable X5000

I don't think its the internet speed - it's the Local network.

When I open the icon for my NAS connected by NIC it's waaaaay faster than when I open it connected by the onboard ethernet. The icons are noticeably faster to appear.

But I haven't tested it since Samba was up-dated.

Unable to scan

Hi all, I don't use Linux too much, just to scan with my Deskjet 1050. However, today I tried to scan and found that it couldn't find my scanner. I can certainly see it in Printer prefs. I thought I used xsane, but didn't see it in the menu for some reason. (I also have Simple Scan installed, but I ...

Re: Unstable X5000

Hmmm.... I have been having a few stability problems myself, but I don't run Wookiechat. I was have been having two problems that seem to be GUI related: I start Odyssey, it starts to draw the GUI, then freezes. I boot up, I see the RAM disk appear, then freezes. Not doing it all the time. It is hot...

NVSetVar and X5000

I've noticed that NVSetVar is missing from the X5000 OS4.1 distro (although it documentation is included).

Is this accidental, or is it incompatible with the X5000 so has been deliberately left out?

Re: Unable to boot from CD

Have you tested to a) unconnect totally your HD and b) connect your CD drive to Sata 0 port? That way you could exclude any effect caused by your HD and also check whether the Sata port 1 (or cable) has some problem. I tested a) when I had the problem I mentioned above - disconnected my SSD's data ...

Re: Unable to boot from CD

Make sure that the SD RAM env-var "os4_bootdevice=auto" is set. It is set. Also, remember that the X5k U-Boot can only boot from SATA, not from PCI. Yes, my CD drive is connected to the onboard SATA, unit 1. Lastly, do you have a serial terminal available to see what is being spat out dur...
