Re: X1000 memory accessibility

When you boot with no Startup-Sequence and just then loadwb, how much is free then? I would check, but my X1000 is on a boat somewhere in the Pacific ocean.

Re: X1000 memory accessibility

My guess is that the memory is missing because you need some adress space to map the pci cards and other hardware into it. I can imagine some memory being reserved for that but not 460MB of memory. It would be nice to see a memory map of the X1000 memory space. I would also like to be able to acces...

Re: CMI8738-based PCIe sound card

Certainly there is. Without it, the PCI-e bus connector is likely to be left open, gathering dust and corrosion on the contacts. Then fill it with a Sil3114 and hang a large drive off it for backups. I thought the onboard sound was quite good myself. I also filled a slot with a USB 3.0 card for use...

Re: SFS2 or JXFS for Work partition?

In casual observation, things like hard drive RPM, hard drive buffer size, transfer speed and bus speed overshadow the speeds of given file systems; granted FFS is slow compared to the others, but it is also repairable.

Re: Pcie ssd in x1000?

If I had a vote, I would say that regardless of the card or drive transfer speed, the bus speed should be looked at for it to make a true use of any speed provided by the card/drive.

Re: What do you do with Linux on the AmigaOne X1000?

I use it to fill in the gaps in office related programs that OS4.1 lacks at present and to provide an ongoing learning experience in the Unix/Linux system side of things (my first programming class was in 1974 and minimal exposure to Unix was around 1979).
