As an update on this, chatting to some other Amigans apparently I should have used FileSystem = L:NTfilesystem3G rather than Handler = L:NTFileSystem3G in the mountlist entry. I will test this later and see if it resolves the issue. I will report back my findings.

The older mplayers were rather buggy, but use the Altivec version. A better player is mui-mplayer (muimplayer.lha) on OS4 Depot.
