Re: Bad boots
I confess I felt a bit guilty and foolish posting my plaint when it seemed that pulling and reseating the ide card and cables might have already cured the problem, but with this batch of kind and thoughtful responses, I'm glad I did. This had been my third try. I first asked at the Yahoo! OS4 group ...

Bad boots
Before I forget, some crucial elements of my SAM460ex are: Hard drive: sii3114 (Hitachi JP6940HZIA JP40 DVD drive: ATAPI iHAS324 B LA15 Graphics card: Radeon RV730 Lately booting the SAM has been a bit scary. Can anyone diagnose these symptoms? The other morning it seemed to start fine, but got to a...

Re: Hard drive activity
I added DiskLED to my SAM460 the day I was told about it, and it worked perfectly. Yesterday when I got back to my X1000 and added it there, the docky just kept staring at me, whitefaced. I thought maybe it didn't know what device I was using, and I didn't, either, so I went to Media Toolbox and fou...

Re: Hard drive activity
Hey, I'm glad I asked the question. All kinds of ideas. I've downloaded diskleddocky (to my SAM, but the next time I try the X1000 I'll install it there). After posting the query, I realized that CPUInfo would do in a pinch, if it is safe to assume that when the CPU stops, the disk must too, and I w...

Re: Prefs > Screenmode > Monitors
@Spectre660 I changed Radeon from "BOARDNAME=PCIGraphics" to "...=Radeon." As a result, that Monitors tab became selectable. I can't find "BOARDTYPE" in PCIGraphics. If you meant "BOARDNAME," it is as you list. @Raziel Changing BOARDNAME seems to have had the ...

Prefs > Screenmode > Monitors
Is it normal for the Monitors tab in Prefs > Screenmode to be ghosted on a SAM460ex? Hard drive activity
I have always understood that one should not reboot while a hard drive is active. But with no hard drive activity light on the X1000 and some apps occasionally loading very slowly (or maybe not at all), how do I know when it is safe to give up waiting and do a warm reboot?

Re: Welcome First Contact customers
Another Johnny-come-lately has been allowed access to this list! My version with two would-be-USB3 ports on top came a week ago today -- I hope my wife doesn't find out -- and I'm spending a lot of time switching back and forth between my SAM460ex and the X1000. Some nice surprises. Timberwolf is ac...

Puzzled about SAM460 USB
If I have anything plugged into a front USB port on my case, cold booting slows way down. U-Boot will report, "5 USB devices found." Then it goes on to look for storage devices. "..." it says. Then after quite a long pause it goes on to say, "error in inquiry," and then...
