Re: X1000 Linux install
[quote="xeno74"]Congratulations! That's great! Now, you can upgrade it to the latest version 16.04.5 . ;-) /quote] If you can tell me where to find it hand how to install it, I'll give it a try. Speaking of updates, when I opened Firefox in my current Ubuntu install, it said I needed to up...

@xeno74
Problem solved. After returning to the problem after a break, I discovered that I was making a typing error. I have Ubuntu installed of a hard-disk partition and it's working. Thanks for the patience and help.

Re: X1000 Linux install
I would recommend you to install a new hard disk in your X1000 and create a big Linux ext4 partition with a LABEL (MBR partition table) on it. LABEL = Name of the partition In my last post I described attempting to install ubuntu on a second hard disk as partition sdb3. All the partitions I've crea...

Re: X1000 Linux install
What do you think about to install a second hard disk? OK. I tried that. I discovered why GParted would not create a partition on a hard-disk for me. The default alignment in the partition window is Mi (or MiB ?) and trying to partition with that setting fails. I tried switching the alignment to &q...

Re: X1000 Linux install
Is /dev/sda10 empty? Could you please check it with the live DVD? When I install ubuntu on sda10, hundreds of files scroll by in the terminal. When I open sda10 after installing, it shows up as empty. Maybe it really is empty. I had to create a blank sda10 with AmigaOS because GParted would not cre...

Re: X1000 Linux install
On which partition on your hard disk did you install ubuntu MATE? Maybe /dev/sda10, /dev/sda11 .....????? I installed ubuntu on sda10 on my hard-disk and on a USB stick with a single partition (sdb1). Starting ubuntu from sda10 (hard disk partition) or sdb1 (USB stick) gets me the same results. If ...

Re: X1000 Linux install
Hi Xenic, Maybe you typed the incorrect partition device or you typed it in a wrong format in the installer. The correct format is: /dev/<your partition> For example: /dev/sdb2 Additionally, maybe you need to reformat your CF card. Cheers, Christian In the installer the USB stick is being formatted...

Re: X1000 Linux install
@xeno74 I added partition 10 from AmigaOS and was then able to format that partition in ubuntu. I also formatted a USB stick in ubuntu. I used the alternate install script to copy the ubuntu files to the hard-disk partition and to the USB stick. Even though the files scrolled by in the terminal like...

Re: X1000 Linux install
@xeno74 Thanks for the help. I think I have all the info I need but will need to rethink my install. The installer won't (or can't) create a partition on my main hard disk. I only had 8 partitions on my X5000 and the ubuntu partition was the 9th. Because of the CFE boot partition, my X1000 already h...

Re: X1000 Linux install
I tried the the alternate install script, formatted a USB stick and installed ubuntu. The install seems to have worked OK, so I may go ahead and install on my hard disk. However, I don't know where to get the kernal. I really appreciate your help but I have one more question: Where do I get the kern...
