All this - Duplex and AutoNeg - is done at driver level. The TCP/IP stack and also no other software has any idea about this. I know how to read the speed, but how do I check duplex and negotiation on an ethernet interface? In first hand for the Sam440ep-Flex machine.

Have you tried using a VGA adapter connected to the DVI port?

Connect the VGA cable to the DVI port via adapter, not to the VGA port.

Netsurf complains about slow disk cache and suggests I turn it off.

System: Sam440ep-Flex, 1 GB RAM with SSD running 4.1 FE.
