Taken your advice and did another dd for the 8GB stick. Took around 48 minutes!

What about copying the stick content to a HDD partition? And then boot the HDD partition?

I did not mind and formatted the cf-card with two partitions with ext2 ! Luckily I had a backup of my cf-card and then copied all the content back to my newly formatted cf-card.
