CrossDosFileSystem has nothing to do with smb. The Samba protocol uses the Common Internet File System (cifs) to access the remote drives. This is an abstracted filesystem provided by each machine implementation, and as such CrossDOS is not involved.

I did experience a similar problem with popup menus in CodeBench. My solution was to push the popups into child tasks, and then signal the main task once the child quits. The result of the selection was stored in a shared variable. I wasn't getting crashes, but was getting intuition deadlocks. I ass...

Checking the release notes for virtual.gadget, I see a bug has been fixed which relates to the window backfill, and as such the problem you show here is solved with virtual.gadget 53.6.
