Re: X1000 success with CruxPPC and MintPPC Linux Distros
Pretty sure he has a FC system, so I'd guess a 4650 card. Seems Debian Mint has h/w acceleration, I don't think its the gfx card, but I'm still a linux noob.

Re: X1000 success with CruxPPC and MintPPC Linux Distros
However we don^t have there hardware3D only software3D.When we use gldrivers we get a kernelpanic. I think in Crux or MintPPC is it the same, but I let myself be happy to teach I have done some testing with Debian Wheezy / Mint PPC and running glxgears I get up to 1720 fps with no issues. I have als...

Re: 2nd Hard Drive recommendations
[SNIP] But I'd still advise backing-up all your OS4 drives anyway, before installing Linux. You can never be too careful! What are you using for a backup process? I've never faced a terabyte storage situation before. Since I expect to continue to be too lax about the matter, my past tactic has been...

Re: Would digg this fanless fan on X1000
Speaking of small fans, my A1XE had the small original fan on it for 5 years with no heat problems. It did overheat when I first got it, but it was not the CFM, it was that the fan was too close to the heatsink and the center of the fan did not allow air to be drawn toward the hot center of the hea...

Re: Would digg this fanless fan on X1000
I would also like to have a more silent X1000. My old A1 was deadsilent compared to my X1000. What fan's are that are noisy that we can replace. Is it the cpu fan, the bigger fan's on back or the psu fan ? Its under my table so i havent checked much what makes the higher noise. Thanks for help. I h...

Re: Would digg this fanless fan on X1000
I've given some thought into replacing the existing heatsink & fan for something quieter. Take note, with a memory stick on both sides of the cpu, you only have 3" of space to work for a replacement or a bit less. Cuts down on what can be installed. You don't need to replace the heat-sink;...

Re: A1-XE cpu heatsink+fan
I seem to recall a few ppl installed a Zalman heatsink/fan unit on their A1's.
The Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan isn't expensive & should do the job, I would think.

Type idetool -l sb600sata.device in a shell, the drive should be running "current 70 (UDMA 6, 133 MB/s)" after the update.
