Today I built the 5.4 kernel on my POWER9 workstation, Debian 10.2, using your config file. I do not know what is different but glxgears is showing a little better than 1000 frames/5 seconds for the same kernel. It is on a 4650 RV730 card.
The best advantage is how fast the build happens. Don't ...

Re: Kernel 5.4
@musa
The CFcard is touchy. Even though it kind of looks like a hard drive it is not.
You can generally delete the last item put on there without problem, however deleting something in the middle tends to mess up the pointers to where other things are.
Also you should not use a journaling file ...

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
I tried 4.19 on my fresh install, and the Mate Terminal works. However, this install did not get a full upgrade, only selected programs have been installed or upgraded. So where the problem lays is anybody's guess. Chalk it up to one of Doctor Strangelove's predictions.

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
Hi Christian,
On a fresh install the 4.19 works just fine. However, after doing a full upgrade when selecting the Mate Terminal it will pop the terminal window open and immediately it disappears. So pretty much it becomes unusable.

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
That is what I did yesterday.....Today it worked????????? I probably screwed something up, can't keep my fingers out of the machinery.
Also, while playing around;
Kernel 4.19 works on a fresh install but not after a full upgrade. (Just FYI.)
I did notice that 5.3 'seemed' to work generally slower ...

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
I re-installed Fienix to make sure any of my attempts at changing things were gone. I have used Fienix to build kernels a few months ago, but having problems now.
This is what I have on this fresh Fienix.
fienix@Fienix:~/548/linux-5.4-rc8$ ls -l /usr/bin/gcc-8
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Sep 9 11:28 ...

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
Hmm....My /usr/bin is different
The link target there is 'powerpc-linux-gnu-gcc-7', and gcc-7 or 8 or 9 is located in /usr/lib/gcc/powerpc-linux-gnu/7

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
gcc not found.
It looks like gcc-9 was trying to install, but is not ready yet and screwed-up the links. I have Fienix on another drive and checked the repositories today and gcc-9 has been removed. I will let you know if further problems arise.

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
GCC is not working in the latest upgrade, at least on the X1000.
