Re: Running MorphOS in Qemu

I think you tested it on the X5000/20. On the X5000/40 it isn't very slow. It's not fast but I can test some things. How about the pointer, is it moving more or less normally in your system? When I tested it was moving from the very beginning like the slowed-down pointer in native MOS after the fir...

Re: Running MorphOS in Qemu

Please test it with prom-env "boot-device=cd:,\mac_ppc32\boot.img" Thanks, with that string I got it running !-) Is the "mac_ppc32/boot.img" some special internal bootimage of qemu? But the emulation worked VERY slowly, especially the pointer... Is that normal, or is there still...

Re: Running MorphOS in Qemu

Trying cd:,/media/NTFS3/MOS/boot.img... Strange ... and maybe -boot d . Please check your QEMU command string. You can find this string in my screenshot. I also used -boot d... Here is the whole string: > qemu-system-ppc -machine mac99,via=pmu -m 512 \ -vga none -device sm501 \ -cdrom /media/NTFS3/...

I tested different options, also loging as 'root'... The same result with all of them.

Re: Running MorphOS in Qemu

I successfully tested MorphOS 3.15 in a virtual QEMU machine with network support on my X5000/40 today. I tested it with QEMU 5.0.0 (Debian 1:5.0-5 default in the Fienix Soar repository) with the RC3 of kernel 5.13 on Fienix. In MintPPC the version is slighly newer (1:5.2....). I tested also with F...

Display corruption with Kernel 5.10 and 5.12

I have experienced constant but irregularly appearing display corruption problems with both Kernel 5.10 and 5.12 (I use both with version spcific uInitrd). The corruption has appeared with different tools (e.g. VLC, Browsers, Gparted). Sometimes even moving a window on the dekstop triggers the issue...

Re: Running MorphOS in Qemu

Which QEMU version and which Linux distribution do you use? I think MintPPC. I haven’t tested MorphOS in QEMU on MintPPC yet. mac99 = G4 First I tested with MintPPC, and now with Feinix-Soar... It has the same problem. I forgot to check the version number but it is the one in the default Fienix dep...

Re: Running MorphOS in Qemu

Do you use the correct OpenBIOS firmware? Download: openbios-qemu.elf.zip . I have the same. Do you emulate a Power Mac G4 or a Sam460ex? I think G4 was mentioned in some of the output strings... But how can you select it? qemu-system-ppc -machine mac99,via=pmu -m 512 \ -vga none -device sm501 \ -c...

Re: Running MorphOS in Qemu

When I tried to run MOS with the example found in the link above (very similar to the string in Christians first image), I got to the qemu window showing this text:

Guest has not initialized the display (yet)

What should be done next?

Re: Preparing a SSD disk with the correct geometry

I *never* recommended low-level formatting of anything. Just like nbache wrote, if you try it, it will at best be ignored by any IDE or SCSI device. What I recommend is to change the logical geometry which is written into the RDB. Alignment is a topic for SSDs and similar flash memory disks. By def...
