Picasso96Mode crash

Post by samo79 »

For now i don't change or add anythings on it but I have an always reproducible crash with Picasso96Mode, this is how to replicate:

1 - Open Picasso96Mode (of course)
2 - Right click on it and select --> Settings --> Batch changes IDs
3 - Now a small window will be open with this value pre-imposted:

New Base ID: $5000

Just click on the OK button to confirm this value and you will have this crash:

Picasso96Mode is being discontinued so it is not likely this problem will ever be fixed.

@ssolie
Although no longer developed will it be (at least) still "available" as is? That alone would be perfect.
AmigaOS has a great advantage with it when it comes to accurately reproduce older systems graphics "aspect" (please check this guide I wrote a while back http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/vie ... at&order=0 ) so let's not make Windows mistakes and deprive ourselves from this very cool possibility.

A cool thing would be to create an "advanced" tab inside the Screen Prefs utility, which would inherit some (or all possibly) of Picasso96mode most usefull features, such as the pixel clock slider, the possibility to specify you don't want a double scanned mode and as important (if not more) than these, the "frame-size" settings, since it is with a combination of the latter and the main resolution values that you can ultimately nail any vertical frequency at any resolution (with pin point precision).
Also ask Broadblues if he likes Picasso96mode ;)

P.S
Picasso96mode works great using Hans RadeonHD driver, already tested on some Sam460EX.

I don't use any of the P96 Fake Native Modes but they came to the fore in a way that was rather annoying
because the system had got to smart!

At our club nights we use a projector from the vga port on my A1, the image to my monitor
being returned from an output port on the projector. If the A1 is powered down when these
connections take place, update 3 takes a look at the projector and decides on those P96
modes which render everything rather fuzzy and all but unusable. I had to disconnect the
projector, reboot, then reconnect the projector in order to get something useful. This
is not really a bug but I would prefer to be able to turn smart behaviour off if necessary.

Oh damn, I just realised I can turn automatic detection off.

Is it going to be replaced? Since the last update I needed to use to create my low res modes. Not wanted but needed. ;-)

@Hypex
"not wanted but needed."
I would say that it's also "wanted", (by me, Broadblues and a few others at least :-)).

On PC, noobs use Windows utilities or the graphic card manufacturer utility to switch and create resolutions, but Pros use Power Strip or they directly write "modlines" in the registry.

Anyway, Picasso96 is our Power Strip, I'm ok if it isn't further developed, but being able to keep using what we already have is mandatory IMHO.

Yep i agree with DAX, if a component is availible on system it need to be bug free (as mutch as possible of course), in this case the crash isn't the unique problem as we have also this Recoverable Alerts that one can't skip using an USB device (so it affect all Sam4X0 users first)

So in my opinion still 2 problems to solve on next update:

- Fix this alert crash on the Picasso96Mode module
- Make Alert crashes always skippable with USB mouse
