Linux for X1000 with Radeon HD 7750 Graphic card?

Post by ktadd »

Like the title says, is there a version of linux (I guess it would be a kernal) that runs on the AmigaOne X1000 with a Radeon HD 7750 graphics card. I purchased the CD for A-Eon a long time ago and it used to boot with the original 4000 series card the system originaly came with but I soon upgraded to the HD 7750 and can no longer run it. Has this situation changed... if not any idea if it will any time soon? (sorry if this is alreay answered. Just to much to read through to find out.)

Yes, there are some distributions which runs with your graphics card. But unfortunately without hardware 3D acceleration.

For example:

ubuntu MATE 16.04.4 LTS PowerPC

MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 0.9

Running Linux on AmigaONEs can require some tinkering.

You can use the latest 4.18 test kernel or the latest stable kernel 4.17 with your graphics card.

Thanks for the help. It's taken me a while to tinker with this but I now have a Ubuntu Mate 16.04.1 bootable DVD. I took the 4.18 kernel and replaced the kernel on the bootable DVD. This seems to have worked as I'm typing this from FireFox running under Ubuntu right now. My question is, can I take the lubuntu file from the 16.04.4 archive and replace the ubuntu file on the DVD to upgrade to 16.04.4? Why is it named lubuntu instead of ubuntu? If I rename it to ubuntu and put it on the CD will it work?

Sorry for the likely dumb questions. I haven't used UNIX since HPUX in the 1980's for work.

After a bit of experimenting with ubuntu I seem to have significant issue. When playing a video, the audio seems to play fine but the video seems to be stuck on the first frame and never advances. I tried playing the video from a USB stick and I copied it to the harddrive that I setup for ubuntu when I used to run the A-EON's original ubuntu bootable DVD image. Still the same issue. Overall the system feels a little slugish, which I'm sure is partly due to running off of a DVD, but even when FireFox is running it feels a bit slugish compared to Odyssey on OS4.

Speaking of FireFox. I went to Youtube but but clicking on videos does not play them. Do I need a plugin? I looked at some plugin's but only saw ones for downloading or ripping the audio to mp3.

Hi Ktadd,

Unfortunately you can't use hardware acceleration with your Radeon HD 7750 graphics card. It works only with supported RadeonHD 4xxx, 5xxx, and 6xxx graphics cards.

Cheers,

Wait, wait, you have made a Bootable and Install Workable Mate 16.04.1 for SI cards? Please upload it somewhere!

Hi All,

If you use a Radeon SI graphics card then please try the following xorg.conf:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Code: Select all

Section "Device"
    Option "UseFBDev" "true"
    Identifier "Card0"
EndSection
Cheers,
