Websites More Cooperative?

Post by jdupuis »

In my previous post I mentioned Odyssey is running faster on my x1000 now that my IP has upgraded to IPv6. IPv4 seems to have increased in speed as well. I have noticed that now I can log in to Apple Support Community and exchange posts via Odyssey. Up till now I could not do such. Web pages on Google display better and Youtube is handled better by Odyssey without using "Spoof As" feature. I am wondering if I'm just lucky or is anyone else having a good experience?
Just a few months I could not do some of the web browsing that I am able to now. I don't have a net speed monitor, but, it sure seems that the Ethernet speed has increased on my x1000. Just askin' around.

Cheers!!

"I don't have a net speed monitor"
I don't noticed an increase for me but you could use SysMon or NetDock programs (both in zTools) to monitor in real time your ethernet bandwith.

Ah, yes! Forgot about zTools, thank you! Haven't installed. I'm going to. Curious as to the peaks of Mbps from the Network Card. I bought the wireless card and for some time it was a little faster than Ethernet. Now, I just as soon stay on the Ethernet connection. I wish I would have monitored my Ethernet speed prior to the ISP system upgrade. Thanks again.

Thank you! Got it! I'm monitoring my web activity. As a base line:
What would be the expected Mbps on Ethernet?

Using NetSpeedometer, I am seeing Connection Rank of 4 Mbit/s Cable/DSL on A-Eon website. Connection Rank of 10 Mbit/s Cable/DSL on Apple Support. Connection Rank of 24 Mbit/s ADSL2+ on Youtube playing Music Video
A-Eon Max Download - 445, KB/s Max Upload 10 KB/s
Apple Support Max Download - 1112 KB/s, Max Upload - 27-29 KB/s
Youtube Music Video Max Download - 1875 KB/s, Max Upload - 21 KB/s

I have no historic data to compare before this. NetSpeedometer accurate or in ball park?

Cheers!!

As accurate as the TCP/IP stack is, since version 53.5 (the current) I would say.

I've reached 100 Mbps (12.5 MByte/s) with my Sam440ep-Flex@733 MHz (with FTP client, not with Odyssey). You might have to tweak your settings to reach that even though you have a much faster machine.

Where and what would one have to tweak to raise the net speed?

I don't really use FTP client. I'm on board with Raziel on his question, though. I think we all would love to know what to tweak.
Sustained or higher 100 Mbps would be fantastic under AOS4.1FE. I believe this has been discussed in the forum and may be part of the next AOS4.x version release, hopefully.

I know that you could tweak (on pre update 4/5/6(?) versions) net speed by adapting the entries in ENVARC:Roadshow/tcp, but i'm not sure if this isn't managed completely by Internet prefs since...
