Hello Fienix friends

I do not know if I am the only one to notice this anomaly. Everything seems to work fine when I use Fienix on my X5000, but I notice that the drive access indicator is always on as long as I'm running Linux.

A check with the command Top shows that the CPU is not overloaded, nore the memory. There is no swap. My SSD disk is far from saturated.

Do you see the same phenomenon?

That's fully normal behaviour of X5000 when running Linux. Don't know why...

Could other users PLEASE test, whether this TV stream (http://rus24.tv/perviy_kanal.html) works with a) Spiderweb b) Palemoon c) FirefoxESR ? I cannot get it work in any of those, just the loading animation... Thank you in advance!-)

Hi Roland,

I confirm that the site rus24.tv/perviy_kanal.html does not work properly on Spiderweb or Firefox ESR. It works perfectly on Arctic Fox (videos are displayed and the sound is correct).

Apparently, Palemoon is not included in the Fienix distribution. I am not able to test Palemoon.

Thanks for testing it! So, the problem is not in my settings but in the browsers themselves. In Arctic Fox it works also here.

That's correct. It is a 'stand-alone' pacakage, for which the download link is found here:

It can be used with other distros, too.

But I saw in your output that the repository isn't available currently. Please wait until the repository is available and then install the packages above.

The problem continues over a month later:

Code: Select all

Could not download all repository indexes
The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.
Serious trouble somewhere?
According to Synaptic, I have the first and third of those packages. I asked Synaptic for the network-manager, network-manager-gnome, and firmware-misc-nonfree things, and got the Failed to fetch again. I thought I must have waited long enough...

Hi, I’m currently moving apartments so I haven’t been able to work on the distro lately and my server is down for the move. It will be back when my ISP is able to transfer service. I should know tomorrow when that will be. Sorry to everyone until then!

Hi All,

I successfully tested Fienix on a X5000/40 with a Radeon HD6970 (CAYMAN) today. :-)

Fienix works really well on a X5000/40. It's faster than ubuntu MATE 16.04.6 LTS PowerPC. I would recommend you to use Fienix instead of ubuntu MATE 16.04.6.

Screenshots:

For comparison Fienix PowerPC on a X1000 with a Radeon HD6870:

The X5000/40 with a Radeon HD6970 is definitely faster than a X1000 with a Radeon HD6870. I tested the performance with the GPU Drawing benchmark, with Glxgears, with Quake-HD-Redux and with SuperTuxKart.

Cheers,
Christian

Thanks for sharing the results! I suppose those tests are measuring only the 3D performance?

Can you please also do some test to show the video performance of X5000/40? Can you run SHD livestreams without problems? At what % is the CPU usage?
