In case anyone is interested, I recently purchased a Mailiya PCI-E to USB 3.0 card which works on my X5000 running Linux (tested with kernel 4.18). It uses a Renesas Technology uPD720201 chipset, so probably any card with this chipset should work. This card was inexpensive (US$17 on Amazon) but the same chipset is used in some more expensive cards and I'm happy with the transfer speed. It includes 2 external ports and a 20 pin connector for front panel ports.
