You can test the new MATE PowerPC Remix 2017 0.9 from a USB stick. You don’t need to delete or upgrade your ubuntu MATE 16.04.4 LTS.
I was planning on using a new USB stick, after carefully removing the one that has 16.04 on it. Actually, the USB stick I run 16.04 from is large enough (119 GB) that I could put the Remix on it and still have room for 17 more Ubuntus. I have the vague idea that there may be a way to put the system inside, instead of leaving it USB dependent, but if so I never understood how.
Printed for ready reference.
But as usual things aren't going to go that easy for me. First I tried to download the Google drive copy of the archive, but that failed after 10 minutes. So I tried the one from Germany, and it was going to take 4 hr 14 min, the download tracker said. So I tried Google again, and this time it pretended to work, in 40 min 1 sec. But it seems too large (5.5 GB instead of 5.1, 5470960278 bytes), and I haven't been able to unarchive it.
I guess I'll try the German one again, next time I can spare four hours.
Is the MD5 checksum for the archive or for something that will come out of the archive? Well, I'll reread the whole Zesty Zapus thread and see if anything becomes clearer.
Of course you can use a new kernel.[/quote]
