@Cyborg

The ASM1083 may not be the issue at all.
I have an Envy24HT pciex1 card with an ASM1083 revision 1 that works with simultaneous audio and video playback on the Sam460ex.
Sound card purchased from ACube .

The AMS1083 revison 1 chips on both my CMI8738 and my first Envy24HT have the markings

BAW43201B1 1124

Markings on my second Envy24HT with the revison 3 ASM1083 are
BMH04501B2 1351

@ Radek

Are you sure? All reports I got from people with later ASM1038 revisions where positive. A simple test would be the demo of Emotion video player from os4depot. For me with my rev 1 card it froze almost instantly, at latest after a couple of seconds.

I'm not sure if the Sam460 is a good testbed. At least the CMI driver includes workarounds for the ASMedia problem if ran on Sam460, which work there, because a different IRQ is used and the original one not shared. We can't use the same technique on other machines unfortunately. Even without that specific workaround, on a Sam460, the sound card/ASMedia does not need to share its interrupt, which greatly influences experience. (for example, I also have a workaround for the CMI cards on X5000, which works as long as the interrupt is not shared.. obviously that is nothing to bet on)

So the real question is: does the card work in the X5000?

If interrupt sharing is pertinent, is it possible to work around the problem in the X5000 by leaving a particular slot empty?

Leaving the slot empty is not enough as the ASMedia bug will still hit you with the current CMI driver. The workaround in my test driver would be needed in that situation, but would mean operating the sound card in polling mode instead of using its interrupts directly, which in turn raises the system load.

Long story put short: if you make sure the CMI/ASMedia is the only user of that specific interrupt AND if you use my polling driver, then yes, you can workaround the problem, effectively loosing one slot.

I have asked seventhwonder to post detail of the Envy24HT being used in his X5000 .

Thank you.
Your card has a revision 3 ASM 1083 chip .
One of mine has a revision 3 chip as well but the other one has a revision 1 chip .
