Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
Hi All,
Please note: Hardware 3D acceleration doesn't work with the Radeon HD7xxx series and above (Radeon SI). You need a Radeon HD6xxx series or below.
If you have a Radeon HD7xxx or above (Radeon SI) installed in your X1000 and X5000, then please prevent the libglamor module from loading. It is loaded if a Radeon HD7xxx or above card is detected and causes xorg to crash.
@Casey
Could you please rename the libglamoregl.so to libglamoregl.so.bak in your next img?
Thanks,
Christian

Many thanks for the updates. I was able to install them today. I haven't found any issues yet.
Screenshot of Fienix PowerPC with Mesa 18.3.4, LibreOffice 6.1.5.2, Arctic Fox 27.9.15, and with the alpha5 of kernel 5.1 on an A-EON X1000 (We are very proud, that the official mainline vanilla Linux kernel supports our X1000 out of the box since version 5.0.):

Casey,
Thanks a lot for TVTime! It works very well with my analog television PCI card WinTV Express with a BT878A chip.
Cheers,
Christian

Fienix PowerPC in a virtual e5500 QEMU machine
Take a look at the following screenshot where you can see the QEMU command and the download link for the kernel.

Re: Fienix - New PowerPC Distro
Pls, do somebody know, why I don't see in Fienix my CFcard ?
see the screenshot, there is only /dev/sdd1 = USBBOOT.
This is with kernel 4.19, 5.0 and 5.1, I don't test yet other kernels.
CFE is formated ext2.
With Debian8 - kernel 4.2 CFcard is normally visible

Hi SailorMH,
I always test the onboard CF card with the test kernels. I see it also on Fienix. It’s formatted with FAT16.
Cheers,
Christian

The VLC solution is on the way to the official kernel source code:

I have to test it more this week. Now in short:
- cfcard (32GB) have MBR (ms-dos), one large ~30GB partition, ext2 formatted - CFBOOT
- booting usb (16GB) in first port have MBR (ms-dos), one large ~15GB partition, ext2 formatted - USBBOOT
both was prepared and formatted with X1000 / linux / fdisk.
after boot to Fienix (kernel 5.0,5.1, stored on cfcard) visible only USBOOT
after boot to Debian8 (kernel 4.2, stored on cfcard) visible USBOOT and CFBOOT, (kernel 5.1, stored on cfcard) visible only USBOOT.
note: visible means it is in output of lsblk and blkid
another note: I also last month bought and installed AmigaOS 4.1FE which have cfecard driver - It can be issue, but as I remember, I dont't touch cfcard from AmigaOS.
I tried to rescan pci busses, but with no success. Then I check Nemo board diagram, and cfcard is not connected to pci/pci-e but to CPU localbus.
Please, do you know which driver or module is for cfcard?
I will make some more detailed tests - check in which kernel versions cf is visible and where not, and test different filesystems and partition size or RDB.
But it takes some time - just now I am overclocking and rebuilding my Pegasos II
