"Wired Network disconnected"

This annoying message keeps popping up on my screen. What the heck does it mean, and is there any way to make it stop?

I'm not using X1k linux but on my x86 linux laptop I see the Wireless equivalent of this when the network goes down.

In resposne to your question on the original thread, yes being attached to a router is a "network" .

I would verify your cabling as a starting point, as "Wired" netwrks don't usually disconnect. If there is any tension in the cable or something is intermittently pushing against it that could be an issue.

Other than that could be a driver issue and you need a more advance linux expert....

Might not be exactly what you're looking for, but i get an annoying "No LAN cable attached" error on a PC i have connected to the same router as my Amiga.
It comes up with that error on *every* reboot or boot of the PC.

The easiest workaround is to disconnect the LAN cable, wait a few secs and plug it back in...network available (strange behaviour though)

Which kernel version and which distribution?

I'm not sure I'm smart enough to answer those questions, but the kernel is vmlinux-4.0, a 22,478,396 byte job I downloaded from one of your posts ("Modified: Sun 29 Mar 2015 20:48:22 HST"), but I'm pretty sure I got the same thing yesterday with vmlinux-4.1.

In fact, I haven't got the message yet today, with 4.0, so I took a look at Network in Settings and today it simply says "Cable unplugged" (with picture).

Just now I tried clicking on the "up arrow down arrow" icon on the upper right (something I never thought to try before) and it says, "Wired Network (PA Semi PWRficient Gigabyte Ethernet)" and the next line (both lines ghosted) has "disconnected."

I took a peek at "Edit Connections ..." Two listed. Wired Connection 1 [Last used] 3 minutes ago. Wired Connection 2 [Last used] 33 minutes ago.

Fascinating. At least it's not being pesty today.

As for "distribution," do you mean like the Ubuntu LTS 12.04 DVD I bought from A-eon?

Does the network connection work? Can you use the internet?

@All

Does anyone have this problem too?

Internet works fine. Except I was going to complain about search engines not working, but I see that has been bug-reported. (The note about wget in the report file saved me some frustration, trying to get kernel-4.1; it's almost 10 years since I last used wget, in Debian, and I wasn't sure I would know how, but I got it and will boot with it next time.)

By the way, this is the second good day in a row. I have been on Ubuntu for over two hours, and not one complaint about wired connections. Network settings still reports an unplugged cable at Hardware address 02:00:E0:0A:30:00 (=?), but I am assuming I no longer have a problem. ("Wired connection 2 [Last Used] 12 hours ago," when the machine was off and I was sound asleep!)

Just curious: What are "IPv4" and "IPv6"?

It didn't stay good, but I can control it now. Sometimes when I launch Ubuntu it comes up with a sort of "radiating" icon just left of the loudspeaker icon in the upper right. If so, I will soon get the "disconnected" message. But if I click on it, I get a window saying:
Wired Network (PA Semi PWRficient Gigabyte Ethernet)
Disconnect

Wired connection 1

Wire Network (Realtek RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+)
Wired Connection 1
Disconnect
I have no idea what that "PA SEmi PWRficient" thing is all about, but if I click "Disconnect" right under it the radiating icon is replaced with up-down arrows and no more disconnections to annoy me.

This is the internal network device.
