Should I replace Ubuntu with Mint?

Post by vox »

I do know LTS has most recent software installed, but
I really dislike Unity (being MATE user on LinuxMint x64)
and I suppose kernel and software can be inserted to
Mint PPC 11 too.

Since I do believe on single hard drive 3 Oss would be difficult to manage
is it recommended to:

- Start installing Mint PPC with G5 64 bit ISO, like in Linux Debian and others manul
inserting latest Kernel
- Install it by formatting existing EXT4 partition where is Ubunty
-Edit the existing CFE menu replacing boot from Ubuntu with Mint, presumably
they would work even with existing choice with no name change?

Is it possible to download all the latest Firefox, OpenOffice PPC to Mint?

Is it possible to create a new bootable ISO with X1000 kernel from Ubuntu / Mint since
my guess is you cant reboot from downloaded PPC ISOs.

I havent did any actions to it, I will wait for recommendations

Look at this for MATE instant of Unity http://www.noobslab.com/2012/04/install ... -1204.html . Should work.

But why replace use it twice ;) Mint and Lubuntu . If you have a CF inside your X1000 you can install a Linux on it too. (slow but useable and for resurrection/repair a Linux ;) )
X1000 RadeonHD5450 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-PC2-8500 Kingston HyperX 5-5-5-5-15 OS4.1.6 & Lubuntu13.04/mintppc11 with Kernel 3.8.7/3.9

Well, I decided to go Mint 11 already and its great LXDE flies compared to Unity. But Debian has more recent packages like newest Libre and FireFox
and I do think of getting that Remix DVD and installing it also. Its easy since they use same kernel on card, and I have nuff space to install another DIstro.

So I ll take both - UBUNTU but with MATE (thanks for link, I love MINT with MATE on my x64) and MINT 11 with LXDE.
