Newest Ubuntu Live CD ISO ?

Post by amigasociety »

I read in A-Eon's blog not long ago of a newer Ubuntu LIVE CD that was being made. I think this one allows to run off of CD and then select install if I want to on my hdd.

Is this CD ISO available for download someplace?

@musa and other Linux Experts

Need an update on current Linux Options!!!

Just received my X1000 back from Amigakit. Sadly it was broken, and they replaced the mobo. Before I close the case and put it under my desk:

Which (new) (kernel)files should I copy to my CF Card? In order to be able to get the best available Linux installed on it.

Seeing this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7PFPifV ... e=youtu.be from musa, I think I am way behind. My old Ubuntu feels slugish. And does not look as snappy as the one I linked to. Is this due to my Radeon HD4650 or/and due to my old Ubuntu installation ?
So, what is currently the best Linux Option?

For Linux I need:
1) a snappy environment, especially if it comes to spreadsheet scrolling (e.g. LibreOffice)
2) working sound on soundcard (First Contact System!) and onboard sound
3) DVD burning
4) video/dvd playback

Does it make sense to update the graphic card, now (only Linuxwise) ?

Thanks for keeping me updated for the present and future (Trevor?)

For 1) Lubuntu 12.04 or mintPPC11 (Debian wheezy) . Both come with LXDE which is fast and easy
For 2) You need to install "pavucontrol" and ad the User to audio and video group (adduser User audio and adduser User video) than you can select with PAVUcontroll the input and outputs from all your soundcards)
For 3) User Brasero oder K3B or xfburn (K3B can burn BluRay too)
For 4) VLC and Mplayer

Kernel 3.8.7 and 3.9 on the CF. Also a good reason to keep an other Kernel in Case of Emergency ;)

Good to hear that your system is up and running again
I have the following Linux systems installed
Hardware: Sound Card @ Julie Graphics: SAPPHIRE HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
Debian squeeze with kde desktop sound ok 3d ok (very stable)
Ubuntu 12.04 with gnome classic sound ok 3d ok (Stable) My main linux system
Ubuntu 12.10 with gnome classic sound ok 3d ok (some annoying system error but ok)
Ubuntu 10.13 with Lxde sound no 3d no (do not know why yet) (Beta but run nicely)

I'm still using kernel 3.5.7 but will probably change soon to a newer kernel
Good luck

What everyone else said.

Plus the latest 3.9.0 kernel is working well.

As far as distributions: Debian Wheezy, MintPPC 11 and Ubuntu 12.04LTS all working well with 2D/3D gfx acceleration for selected RadeonHD 4, 5 & 6 series cards. Also Pat has had success with 13.04 Xubuntu and Lubuntu Desktops (but not Unity as yet)

As previously reported Pat Wall has produced a LiveCD which Unbuntu 12.04 can be booted from (and installed). Docs are being finalised and will be posted soon. The iso will be available to download from the A-EON app store when up and running. If this is delayed for any length of time will make it available from the secure download area on the A-EON website.

I'm finally getting around to trying Linux on my X1000. But have not been able to find a working download link for one of the distributions that have been built for the X1000. The only link on A-Eon's download site is for the USB version and gives an error message, and I haven't been able to find any other links to any other versions. Is the new Ubuntu Live CD ISO available yet and if not when?

Thanks,

The following link works for:
Debian ppc:
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/7.1 ... etinst.iso
Mint PPC:
http://http.us.debian.org/debian/dists/ ... t/mini.iso
Ubuntu 12.04:
ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/precise/main/installer-powerpc/current/images/powerpc64/netboot/initrd.gz

The kernel:
http://www.xenosoft.de/kernel-3.9x1000.tar.gz
Follow the instructions in the Debian_Linux_Installation pdf file you find on A-eon website.
I have install all of this distributions and all are working
Good luck

Thank you musa. :)

There is a new version of the kernel 3.9 available -> http://www.xenosoft.de/kernel-3.9.0-2-x1000.tar.gz. ;)

Running Linux on AmigaONEs can require some tinkering.
