I think Trevors response was right on..
I cannot boot into any original boot partition with my updated graphics card. The red progress bar runs full length and then everything stops.
I was NOT aware that we cannot boot at all if there are no drives attached..

Perhaps I should make an emergency boot CD that has the newer graphics drivers, just so I have a tool in case I ever have a similar problem.

It could be that CFE has become corrupt, you can try to re-set it with the jumper. There is a pdf on how to do this, maybe on a-eon's web site. If that works, you can re-flash back to the latest. I don't know if this is your problem, but it is a possability.

You must have one hdd and cd/dvd drive connected to sata 0 and 2. Try that before doing anything else.

Just to confirm, currently not even CFE (the firmware) is showing on-screen? When you tried the rescue firmware using JP1, I assume that you switched off the machine first?

If so, then:
- First, follow Trevor's suggestion (and make sure that the cables are properly connected)
- Can you remember which drive was connected to which port? If so, try connecting them back the way that they were, and make sure that the power connections are right too
- What are the states of the row of 6 LEDs on the motherboard? LEDs 1 and 2 should be off, and 3-5 should be on
- If you can, get a null-modem serial cable and a USB-to-Serial device for your windows laptop. Next, connect the cable between your PC and A1-X1000. Install PuTTY on your laptop, and set up a connection at 115200 bps via the USB serial port (make sure that you choose the right COM port). The A1-X1000's CFE spits out information as it is booting, which could tell us at what point it's stopping

It is possible that your CMOS RAM (which stores CFE config data) got corrupted somehow, but I strongly suggest that you do the steps above before taking actions like clearing the CMOS RAM (that's irreversible).

The original 4xxx card works with any X1000 driver, at least it does for me.
What I would do;

Remove the 6850 and inspect the top PCIe slot with a magnifying glass to make sure no connectors got smooshed or bent over. Leave slot empty.

Install the 4xxx card in the second slot, and don't forget to attach the monitor cable like - - er - - some guy I know.

Connect only the original HD and DVD.

Make sure the cmos jumper is in it's original position.

Plug-in, switch on, see what happens.

If you erased the bios......yuk, but you could again try with the jumper in the second position after a complete power down.

I feel for your troubles.

LED 1 & 2 is full light. Led 7 & 8 are very small light like small dots.

How does the resurect work (yes i power down when changing). I put the switch from 1-2 to 2-3 but nothing. I waited for a long time.

I removed the battery for 10 minutes and put back. Nothing new.

Mechanic: Ill try tomorrow with connecting the gfx card in the other slot.

EDIT: If CFE dont appear does this mean if i had an os4 bootable it wouldnt help. i mean can i boot an os4 cd only if i see CFE ?

According to the A1-X1000 reference manual:
LED1 = general power supply fault
LED2 = CPU core supply fault

LED3 = SB600 power good
LED4 = CPU power good
LED5 = SB600 running

Since you have LED 1 & 2 lit but not LEDs 3-5, you have a power supply issue. I just double-checked with my A1-X1000, and I have LEDs 3-5 lit as expected.
