I can't find my country!

Dear Developer,

I recently relocated from Seoul to Taiwan. I can't find Taiwan as a country, but Hong Kong and Macau, who are not countries.

Besides that I wish Amiga OS 4.x could support Asian languages for display and input. If you need a translator, I volunteer

I want to use my Amiga as a full working station and not depend on Linux. :geek:

Hello,

For the Taiwan localization you need these four files:
  1. A keymap file which goes to "SYS:Devs/KeyMaps/" directory
  2. A country file which goes to "SYS:Locale/Countries/" directory
  3. A language driver which goes to "SYS:Locale/Languages/" directory
  4. A charset driver which goes to "SYS:Locale/CharSets/" directory
You will also need a font with correct glyphs.
You can easily create the keymap file by yourself. It's just a text file containing character definitions for each key: which character will be printed when the user presses a key.

Creating the other 3 files requires basic programming skills. The AmigaOS 4 Software Developer Kit (SDK) contains templates and generator programs for creating the files. You just have to add the missing country and language information to the source code and compile and run the programs. That's all.

AmigaOS needs these files before you can select Taiwan & Taiwanese from the Locale preferences:
  • Taiwan.country
  • taiwanese.language
In order to create those files some information is needed in Taiwanese, like the month names and week day names, and some general information about Taiwan.

Try sending a private message to Cyborg (he is one of the core developers) and ask if he can create the files. He is also the person who you should contact, if you would like to be a translator.

I believe Taiwanese is a branch of Chinese using "Hanzi" characters?

I already have an initial "chinese.language" for Locale:Languages/

However...Input of Chinese(/Taiwanese) Hanzi Characters is currently not supported outside my own limited efforts that I am aware of.

Any Unicode complete TrueType / OpenType font will have the font requirements ( just any font is usually region limited and stripping the CJK sections entirely... Which IS a problem...).

I'm still working on dealing with Chinese / Japanese and Korean IME rules so that the OS doesn't require radical changes.

I've been given a couple of roadmap "true/false" hints and am working through current limitations.

Twpatriot: Are you interested in testing and directing a developer with regards to Chinese/Taiwanese specific IME quirks?

Spektro: I'm going to need to catchup with Cyborg again I see... Thanks.

Its because of infamous " 2 China" system. If you dont find that offensive, use Chinese.

However, Chinese support in AmigaOS is extremely limited.

P.S.
I believe Amigas were made on Taiwan, but never sold to.
