An input.device freeze I once caught.

Post by Hypex »

Hello. A couple of years back I collected a few crash logs where the input.device froze the system. I don't know if the problem was resolved but I still see input freezes in the system so thought I would post some logs and in case it would help resolve a possibly serious issue. At this point it would be good if a log included the version of the crash logger that generated it as well as system module versions.

This first one has a note: Was opening menu bar with MultiView and right mouse button. Bar changed then system froze.

Re: An input.device freeze I once caught.

Post by Hypex »

I find this hidden feature useful. :-) That said I have another log. I had AmiUpdate scanning in the background while I using OWB to put up an ad. My system froze. I have a USB mouse with a PS/2 converter that can help as it can be pulled out and put back in. Sometimes that works. The only way to reactivate a PS/2 mouse when input is lost.

However this time once again USB failed to come to the rescue. I pulled my mouse and plugged it in again, no change. Pull it out and plug in my front USB. No movement and light underneath is dim suggesting dead system. I also have tried USB keys before to see if they flash.

Here's the log. A task called ButtonAnimTask crashed. Need to locate who that is.

Re: An input.device freeze I once caught.

Post by Rigo »

ButtonAnimTask belongs to AmiUpdate. There have been a few fixes in that area recently as I've seen similar crashes. No idea why though, it's been rock-solid up until now. Ho-hum.

As far as just "throwing" crashlogs around, it isn't really going to be very useful unless you can
1) reproduce it, and
2) supply the steps required to reproduce the crash.

While there is plenty of information in the crashlogs, without knowing just what was going on at the time, they are pretty useless.

Well that's at least something. I did suspect as much. Now why hasn't it found that new version? ;-)

BTW I have found it can delay looking for a new version. At first it happened when the network was busy, which Roadshow tends to get all internet using tasks stuck on. But tonight it wasn't busy and it was looking for a minute...

I fully see your point. But I have had these for a while and wanted to get them out there. Just incase a function offset can be checked to make sure no rogue bugs have been sitting in there. Of course once a codebase is updated the offets are useless but I just couldn't be silent on the issue.

OTOH I feel I have supplied all that is needed for the CPIO bug, so who's in charge of XAD? And when is the native OS4 verson coming? :-)
