Storage Devices (Icon bug)

Post by samo79 »

Sometimes when i remove manually a storage device such a CD/DVD or a pen key drive from my system (AmigaOS 4.1 on Sam Flex) very often its icon showed on Workbench does not disappear automatically, to solve this i need to click on the icon with the mouse :?:

It's not a huge problem but still a bug, anyone have the same problem ?
it is already fixed on the update 3 ?

It is a long-standing bug. It's probably the same problem as when you Quick Format a volume, giving it the same name as before, you end up with two identical icons on the WB.

It's not likely to be fixed for Update 3, there are more urgent things to do...

Well, while i can agree that isn't that urgent if as Nube say this bug still since 4.0 PreRelease (2004) or so .. 7 years having such bug looks quite strange to me, really :?

Samo don't start whining please.
Anything is more important than such non critical bug.

Also, if everything is closed on such device (no file opened on it), I can remove it and it disappear on my WB. So either it's fixed or it's rare it happens...

no, it is not fixed for us (end users), maybe for you that are a betatester.. Yes maybe it is not critical but after 7 years is still there.. I understand that you are part of this project as betatester and maybe even more but try to see all these things from the point of view of the end user or all this thread will be without utility.. :-)

Its just like in the business world some times things just don't get done. 4 years down the road you manage to paint that sign or whatever finally.

The good thing is it's ok to remind ourselves some things still need to be done, as long as its just a reminder and not a distraction of energy.

I'd say its been reminded and now we move on :D

Well not so rare at all here, ok it doesn't crash that's true, and it doesn't create big problem in general too, BUT for example if i need to switch many CD (say i need to search a file and i don't remember where i burned) having such bug (that doesn't cancel the icon in auto from the desktop when i remove a device) can create REAL problem to me... so as it's a very visible bug i just ask myself why still there after so many time, that's it

This is not a polemic, i love all what has been done, just a consideration :|

Peace

If it helps you, I can say that I wrote a bug report about this many years ago. There are many comments attached to that report over the years, from several devs, all trying to work out what is wrong.

The bug report is still open.

For what it's worth, I just tried inserting many CDs under Update3 and opening the drawers and doing a "Find" in them. And when I removed the CDs all icons disappear.
I wonder if the icons stays because you use a non-OS4 tool like Dopus to access the CDs. Dopus or any other tool may keep a lock enabled that could prevent the icon to disappear. Just a thought.

@Tony
Can you say in your comment which bug report it is? Thanks
